Pronunciation Competition organized by the Institute of English and American Studies

On January 31, 2020, a pronunciation competition was organized for the 13th time at our university, by the Institute of English and American Studies and the Department of German Language and Literature. We were delighted to see a large number of secondary school students . A total of 56 participants arrived from Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Heves and Nógrád counties. In the first round of the competition, the contestants were able to choose from three texts, which they could download from the website of the Institute of English and American Studies. The 15 students who made it to the finals had to read an unknown text to a jury of teachers and students from the Institute.
It was a difficult task for the jury to decide the order of the best students because all participants were well prepared and very convincing. Evaluation criteria included intonation, proper fluency, sound production, pace, sentence focus and syllable stress.
The first three contestants were :
1. Klára Kovács (Salgótarján Bolyai János Secondary school, English teacher: Márta Gedőcziné Berger)
2. Csőke Zétény (Neumann János Grammar School, Eger, English teacher: Tímea Czeglédi)
3. Bányai Nándor (Neumann János Grammar School, Eger, English teacher: Piroska Alföldiné Kiss)
We warmly congratulate all participants and their teachers and thank them for taking part in our event! We look forward to seeing them at our university next year!
