The Eger and Gyöngyös campuses of the Eszterházy Károly University offered a two-day intercultural awareness training in English for foreign students in the autumn semester of 2018.
The training focused on the enhancement of understanding, sensitivity to diversity, positive attitudes towards distinctive cultures, languages and individual personality types.
The first session of the training took place on 4th and 5th of October 2018 at the Eger campus (Building B). On the first day, instructors and students participated together to know each other. 50 students from 13 countries and 13 tutors from 4 University faculties took part in the training. There was a large group building session which was followed by tasks in three smaller groups. The entertaining group-builders, simulation tasks, situation analyses and self-reflections aimed to create a positive attitude. The training was hosted by experienced trainers and experts: László Dorner Dr. Tünde Taskó (Department of Psychology, Eger Campus), Rita Difiore Czipczer, Lindsey Cuen and Professor David J. Van Dyke.
The training at the Gyöngyös campus took place on 10th and 11th of October 2018 led by Dr. István Réthy. 40 students from 16 countries participated in the programme. The entertaining group-building tasks aimed at practicing intercultural communication and approaching other opinions without prejudice. After the first day, the leader of the training performed live music with his guitar.
All tutors and trainers considered the training as an absolute success and students were satisfied as well. The training successfully made them get to know each other and some other cultures as well. The next edition of the training will be held in November at both campuses.
The programme took place within the framework of the EFOP-3.4.3.16-2016- 00010 project called „Developing the Eszterházy Károly University to enhance the quality of tertiary education and its availability".
