INSTITUTE OF ECONOMIC SCIENCES

Department of Business Economics

History of the department dates back to 1990. The independent Department of Economics was founded on 16 October, which paved the way for the introduction of economic training in our institution. The organizational structure has changed a lot over the past two decades. Our department employs 30 academics and operates within the Institute of Economic Sciences.

Department of Economics

The department was founded on 1st January 2002, but its history is linked to the establishment and development of economic training of college level. The enlargement and differentiation of economic education required structural changes. The Institute of Economic Sciences was founded in 1999 with two departments: the Department of Economics - operating from 1990- and the newly established Department of Applied Economics. The latter is considered to be the predecessor of the current department.

Department of Tourism

Tourism is becoming one of the world's leading industries according to national and international research. Hungary's natural, geographical, historical and cultural features as well as the uniqueness in its diversity are still unexploited opportunities. Their sensible and sustainable utilization- considering tourism mega-trends- is crucially important in terms of economics and improvement in quality of life at national and European level as well.
Based on the local conditions, development of tourism is a number one possible tool for reducing backwardness and regional differences in Northern Hungary (Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Heves, Nógrád counties).Considering all these facts we believe that well-qualified tourism professionals having different specialised knowledge- will be in great demand in the region.

Department of Social Pedagogy

The Department of Social Pedagogy offers courses in social science, law, psychology, social work, and pedagogy to students in their first year. As they move on with their studies, social pedagogy students acquire many useful skills, such as communication skills, learning techniques, problem solving skills, and counseling skills. Students can use them in their future career and also for self-improvement. Students start their traineeship in their third semester and during the seventh semester they have a six-month long field practice, where they can use and improve the acquired skills. Their main activity as a social pedagogue will be conversation management. They will help people to make decisions, verify their positive values, and help them to make changes in their lives.
We will teach you how to empower people to achieve their goals. Profession-specific job areas include family care worker, drug prevention coordinator, probation officer/professional patron, youth protection worker, parenting consultant, social administrator and educator.
