Santa Claus from Portugal

Last modified: 2015. December 15.

The international students of the Eszterházy Károly University of Applied Sciences took part at a "Santa Claus party," on 4th December in building "B".

First the participants heard information about the tradition of Santa Claus day and learned that although Father Christmas, Santa Claus traditionally comes from Lapland, he is the descendant of Bishop Nicholas who was born and lived in the territory of Turkey.

The multinational PLUS singers formation – a small group of foreign students – singed traditional English Christmas songs. After it the whole room sang "Hull a pelyhes fehér hó" which was very successful because Santa arrived in the middle of the song.

True, this time Santa has sent us a young relative from Portugal to reward the students. Everyone received a chocolate Santa Claus, but there was no virgács: Santa Claus arrived this time without the devil!

The festival continued with the tasting of traditional Christmas sweets, candies, nuts and poppy seed cookies (beigli) and of course most people tasted mulled wine.

At the end of the evening the students danced, with the coordination of the ESN mentors who taught several ballroom dances.
